“Our heritage: where the past meets the future”
This is the slogan of the 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage.
Cultural heritage is at the heart of the European lifestyle. It defines us and creates a sense of belonging. Cultural heritage combines literature, art and objects, the crafts we learn, the stories we tell, the food we like and the films we see. Cultural heritage allows us to understand the past and build the future.
According to the European Commission's proposal, the European Parliament and the Council declared 2018 European Year of Cultural Heritage. The Commission’s aim is to highlight the role of European cultural heritage by promoting awareness of common history and identity. This year, a great variety of events and projects will be held throughout Europe to increase interest in cultural heritage in the public, especially in children and young people.
The European Year of Cultural Heritage will focus on the richness of Europe's cultural heritage, highlighting its role in creating a shared awareness of identity and building the future of Europe.

In addition, it will commit to remember anniversaries that represent milestones for both Slovenian culture and tourism (200 years of visits at the Postojna Cave, the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the National Gallery of Ljubljana, the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War).
